The IDRC Research Chair on Forced Displacement in Anglophone West Africa is a five-year initiative hosted at the Centre for Migration Studies, University of Ghana. This Chair is purposed to generate evidence-based knowledge, amplify local voices and provide gender-transformative solutions to the pressing challenge of forced displacement in the region.

Working across Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia, the Chair is building a strong community of scholars, practitioners and policymakers committed to understanding the drivers of displacement and shaping effective, inclusive responses.

Why It Matters
Forced displacement in West Africa is growing — but evidence and voices remain limited.

West Africa has become increasingly vulnerable to conflicts, political violence, armed groups, and extreme weather events. Millions are displaced within and across borders, yet little is known about their access to essential services like education, healthcare, and livelihoods. The Chair addresses this knowledge gap while elevating the voices of affected populations and young scholars.
